Noise Engineering Dystorpia in detail
With Dystorpia, Noise Engineering presents a particularly vicious distortion in pedal format. The purely digital pedal produces a wide range of sounds, from classic fuzz sounds to futuristic wrecking balls. In terms of level, Dystorpia is equally suitable for guitar and line signals. Three interlocking distortion types are at work in the pedal. In the input stage, the signal is already given a proper boost with GAIN. FOLD basically corresponds to a classic wavefolder. PURA is a multiband full-wave rectifier that adds a harmonic Fuzz. The Tone control sets the rough direction of the sound; Mid Band shifts the sound spectrum to the mid frequencies and ranges from bassy to rich in overtones. The Doom switch adds a rather chaotic sub-octave to the already hard basic sound. The ENV switch covers two tasks: firstly, it derives a volume curve from the input signal, which is used to control the intensity of the distortion. Alternatively, it functions as an automatic noise gate, which lowers the output level when no input signal is present. It is truly amazing how versatile Dystorpia is. The subtle overdrive sounds as well as the harsh and chaotic distortions reveal a roughness and charm that is probably unique in this constellation.
