The Bass Station II Swifty Edition at a glance
The Novation Bass Station II is an analog mono synth based on the original Bass Station from 1993. The analog signal path consists of two oscillators plus sub-oscillator, ring modulator, noise generator, a filter that works either with the acid filter of the original or a timeless sounding multimode filter and a VCA with Distortion. For modulation, there are two ADSR envelopes and LFOs, filter FM and assignable handwheels. 128 memory locations for sounds, a step sequencer with four patterns and an arpeggiator round off the features. The limited Swifty Edition was created in collaboration with British graphic designer Ian "Swifty" Swift, who is responsible for the iconic visuals of labels such as Mo' Wax and Talkin' Loud as well as The Face magazine and many others. There are also 64 new patches from renowned artists such as techno icon Lego World, the alt-pop duo Pecq and the jazz/electronic fusion artist Maria Chiara Argirò.
A must-have for synth fans
The 25-key keyboard is velocity-sensitive and offers assignable aftertouch. During development, great importance was attached to optimum playability. Thanks to individual suspension, each key responds very easily and ensures that the sound generation is activated immediately. The Bass Station II has a complete MIDI implementation, works as a class-compliant MIDI device, offers MIDI input and output and can be used as a MIDI/USB keyboard for other MIDI devices and music software. Of course, signals from external instruments can also be processed using the analog filter and effects.
The analog sound of the Bass Station II
The Bass Station II offers powerful Bass sounds as well as cutting lead sounds and sparkling arpeggios. Behind the design are the best elements of the original Bass Station, plus the modulation section has been reworked, as have the effects, filters and more. The signal path is completely analog - even the complete "effects section", consisting of Distortion and Filter FM. The sounds of the Bass Station II can also be saved and easily loaded again later. There are 128 memory locations available for this purpose; half of them are largely filled ex works with timelessly good-sounding Bass and lead patches. Additional patches and complete sound sets can be saved and exchanged on the computer.
