The RME Babyface Pro FS is a further development of the popular Babyfaceaudio interface and delivers further improvements in sound quality, withoutcompromises inlevel, signal-to-noise ratio or distortion values. Onboard the portable high-end USBinterface are newly developed analog and digitalcircuits for highest precision in recording and playback.
Here's an overview of the Babyface Pro FS's new features:
The +19 / +4dBu switch on the bottom provides a direct way to reduce the output level, thus improving the signal-to-noise ratio for sensitive active monitors, lowering click noise when switching on and off, avoiding distortion / overloads and helping to keep the TotalMix FX fader at 0 dB instead of high attenuations
Full SteadyClock FS as in the ADI-2 Pro FS for lowest jitter and highest jitter immunity
Output power of the 3.5 mm TRS headphone outputs increases from 70 mW to 90 mW. THD of both headphone outputs improves and up to 10 dB. Now uses the same operational amplifiers as the ADI-2 Pro. Output impedance of 3.5mm TRS has been reduced from 2 ohms to 0.1 ohms.
SNR of microphone inputs have been improved from 112.2 dB to 113.7 dB. SNR of TRS line inputs from 114 dB to 116.3 dB (120 dBa). THD line inputs were improved and 8 dB
6 samples less latency on the AD side due to the new ADC (5 samples AD, 7 samples DA)
Power consumption does not increase despite mentioned features
I upgraded from a 2nd Gen Scarlett 6i6 to the Babyface Pro FS and the difference in quality is hard to believe. I'm using mine with Genelec 8030 monitors in a well treated room and the improvement is tangible. Everything sounds clearer,thicker,deeper. Minute changes in compression are readily apparent. I should have upgraded years ago..although maybe I just wasn't ready to appreciate the difference. The Scarlett is capable of great recordings..but this is capable of better.
