The creative heart of Reason for modern sound design and music production

The Reason Rack is the center of Reason and the place where music is truly created. Inspired by classic hardware racks, it combines instruments, effects, MIDI tools and modulation in an open, playful environment. Everything is immediately accessible, logically structured and invites you to experiment.

Whether you want to quickly play an inspiring Preset or build a complex, modular sound system, the Rack is versatile enough for both worlds.

A rack like real hardware

The Reason Rack works like a real studio rack. Devices are wired from top to bottom, parameters can be intuitively rotated, moved and modulated. Instruments, effects and MIDI players are simply added via drag & drop and are immediately ready for use.

You can concentrate completely on making music or dive deep into sound design. Both feel organic and musical.

Reason everywhere - as a plugin or standalone

The Rack is not tied to a specific way of working. You can use Reason as standalone music software or load the Rack as a plugin in your DAW. VST3, AU and AAX are supported.

This allows you to integrate sounds and complete racks into Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase or Pro Tools. The Reason Rack extends existing setups instead of replacing them.

Sound design without limits

The creative workflow in the Rack is deliberately kept open. Start with an instrument, add effects and use players to transform your playing or create new musical ideas. Everything reacts immediately, everything remains musical.

Flip the Rack - Modular thinking

The modular world opens up at the back of the rack. Audio and CV cables can be freely patched, signals can be split, modulated and reconnected. Filters can be controlled by envelopes, LFOs modulate effects and parallel signal paths can be created with just a few clicks.

At the same time, Reason remains accessible even for beginners. Automatic cabling ensures that making music always works - even without ever opening the back panel.

A huge collection of devices

Reason comes with an extensive selection of synthesizers, Drum machines, samplers, effects and utilities. All devices have been developed in Sweden since 1994 and are designed for musical practice.

Players - creative MIDI effects

Players are MIDI effects that change your playing or create music themselves. Arpeggiators, chord generators, sequencers or drum players help you find new ideas or quickly implement complex patterns.

Players can be used in the rack or send MIDI directly to your DAW.

Combinator - your own rack device

The Combinator combines several devices into a single Patch. Custom front panels with knobs, faders and buttons can be freely designed and connected to any parameters. This creates individual instruments and effect racks that can be called up again at any time.

Rack Extensions - unlimited expansion

With Rack Extensions, Reason can be expanded as required. All extensions are fully integrated into the rack, including CV wiring, undo history and a central browser. Whether from indie developers or well-known brands - new devices integrate seamlessly and remain compatible even with system updates.
