Roland's compact cult sampler SP-404 has undergone an extensive overhaul with the MkII version. With 17 velocity-sensitive pads, you now have access to even more samples than before. The internal memory holds an impressive 16 GB and provides access to 2560 samples and 2560 patterns, spread over 16 samples x 10 banks and 16 projects.
The display (finally) allows graphic visualisation, so that sounds and loops can be cut directly on the device. Inputs for microphone/guitar and line signals allow audio material to be recorded in the device. Resampling is also integrated so that finished sounds and loops can be created as a new sample with the desired settings. In chromatic mode, samples can be played with a fixed pitch, which is particularly useful for synth sounds.
The sequencer can be used to record beats and loops with a length of up to 64 steps (4 bars). Live functions such as reverse and roll provide the necessary variation when recording and jamming. The tempo of loops is recognised automatically.

Thanks to a significantly expanded and, above all, modernised effects section with 38 effects covering delay, reverb, kill EQ, filter, distortion and other effects, not only can the samples to be played back be bent, but the audio inputs can also be included, making the Roland SP-404MKII ideal as an effects unit for DJs and live acts.
The free editor available via the Roland Cloud gives you convenient access to sample assignment and editing, pattern programming, project management and other functions.
Roland provides the products with updates that bring new functions and improvements to the instrument. With the 4.04. update, Roland has once again added many new features to the product.

Firmware version 5.0 transforms the compact sampler into a controller for the popular SERATO DJ software. In co-operation with Serato, Roland has introduced a new (free) OS that transforms the SP-404 MKII into a pre-mapping controller for Serato DJ Lite, Serato Studio and Serato DJ Pro (at extra cost), which can be very useful in DJ sets, beat creation or song production. In addition to some new functions and improvements that make the SP-404 MKII even better, the device is now even more interesting for DJs.
Roland SP-404 MK IISo much power, so many features, yet it still manages to be somewhat intuitive... mostly :) Thankfully there's a huge community of 404 enthusiasts and YouTubers, so I never feel lost. The answer is always just a click away, and the user manual is really good too. This was love at first sight for me. Build quality is great and the top plate is made of metal. The 404 is going to be the centerpiece of my mobile setup for the summer.
Sold my MPC Live 2 after getting this. It does everything I want, is more compact, easier to use and half the price! Excellent bit of kit.
My only gripe is that I dislike the EU power supply as I have to use a UK adapter which is really annoying!!! And I can't find an original Roland PSD-230E anywhere!!! Would have rather paid more than have that stupid monstrosity!
