To celebrate Sequential's 50th anniversary, the manufacturer unveils the Special Edition of the Prophet-10. This exclusive model honors the legendary Dave Smith, the visionary American synthesizer pioneer and engineer behind the bran, who tragically passed away in 2022. Limited to just 150 pieces, the Prophet-10 SE features a stunning fine pearlwood (lacewood) body, sourced from the forests of South America. Known for its unique, varied grain, this fine wood gives each unit a distinct, visually striking appearance. Technically and functionally, the Prophet-10 SE mirrors the standard version of the ten-voice analog synthesizer, offering the same iconic sound and features. Each unit is virtually one-of-a-kind, complete with a certificate of authenticity and a specific serial number, ensuring its status as a collectible piece of muscial history.
Included with the Prophet-10 SE is an embroidered "Special Edition" protective cover, designed to keep this rare instrument in pristine condition. A truly rare opportunity for collectors and anyone who considers the sound of the Prophet-5 to be irreplaceable.
The Prophet-10 from Sequential is a 10-voice version of the highly acclaimed Prophet-5, which itself is a faithful reissue of the original Prophet-5 produced from 1978 to 1984. This modern incarnation, however, should not be confused with the two-manual Prophet 10 that was produced from 1980. The Prophet 10 stays true to the legacy of one of the most pioneering plyphonic analog synthesizers, combining vintage sound with modern enhancements that are sure to please both purists and fans of the original. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this synthesizer features a high-quality 61-key Fatar keyboard that offers excellent playability, complete with velocity and aftertouch sensitivity – allowing for nuanced expression and dynamic control. The Prophet -10 retains the iconic, rich sound of the Prophet-5, a sound tjat has inspired musicians for over 40 years and been the foundation of countless hit songs across genres.
The Sequential Prophet-10 officially concluded with revision 3 (or 3.3), but the revision 4 introduces subtle yet impactful updates. In addition to its outstanding 61-key Fatar keyboard, the Prophet-10 Revision 4 features a significantly expanded sound memory – up to ten times larger, depending on revision number – now offering f 200
The Sequential Prophet-10 is powered by two assertive oscillators each built around a CEM3340 chip. These oscillators offer a variety of waveforms including sawtooth, square and an adjustable pulse width. Oscillator A can be synchronized to oscillator B, While Oscillator B adds extra versatility with a triangle waveform and the ability to switch to low mode, decoupling it from the pitch control for unique sound design possibilities. Both VCOs (Voltage-Controlled Oscillators) are mixed together in the mixer section, which also includes a noise generator for adding texture and complexity to your sounds. The beautiful core sound of the Prophet-10 is then shaped by a 24dB Lowpass filter, offering a rich, characterful tone. This filter behaves similarly to a Moog filter, but its sound is distinctly different from transistor cascades due to the SSM 2040 chip used in earlier revisions. In Revision 3, you also have the option of selecting the more modern SSI 2140 chip, which brings a fresh twist to the filter's sonic character. A standout feature of the Prophet-10 is its ability to activate waveforms simultaneously in both oscillators and the LFO (Low-Frequency Oscillator), offering even more creative possibilities for sound design.
The modulations are located on the left-hand side of the control panel. Poly-Mod combines the Filter Envelope and Oscillator B sources and can be applied to the frequency and pulse width of Oscillator A, as well as the Cutoff. This section is key for creating more aggressive sounds through oscillator and filter FM. The LFO features three waveforms that can be activated in parallel and are assigned via the modulation wheel. This allows for easy modulation control, including integration with the noise generator. The frequency and pulse width of Oscillators A and B, as well as the Cutoff, can all be used as simultaneous modulation targets. Two crisp ADSR envelopes are permanently assigned to the filter and VCA, ensuring precise control over the dynamics and tonal shaping of your sound.
