Karplus-Strong synthesis in a double pack
With SuperKar+, Strymon presents a digital, dual synth voice that makes full use of the rare Karplus-Strong synthesis. This form of synthesis is capable of producing the sound of plucked or bowed strings, struck or blown pipes or tubes, as well as a range of other sounds, from percussive textures to legato melodies and chords with intelligent harmonies. This is achieved with surprisingly few parameters, as short, modulated delay lines with high feedback values are basically used here. In the SuperKar+, this is done purely digitally with a super-fast ARM processor, which is why the module provides two synth voices with 16 voices each at the same time. The two voices differ in their features: the Solo Voice can be played 1-16 voices monophonically or paraphonically, whereas the Chord Voice comes with additional parameters and generates up to 16-voice chord structures with fixed intervals. The Attack, Decay and Damping parameters in both channels not only influence the volume curve but also the sound-shaping nuances at the beginning of the tone generation. In addition to Pitch and Gate per voice, a total of 13 CV inputs are available for complete control via control voltage. The audio outputs can be configured as Dual mono or Stereo.
