The Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch WBS52RZS-MDR is a professional-grade shell set featuring hybrid shells made of walnut and birch. This innovative combination produces a modern, warm sound with pronounced low-end clarity, while remaining articulate across all registers. The kit comes equipped with Tama’s legendary Starclassic shell hardware, including the Star Cast Mounting System, cast hoops, and spring-loaded floor tom legs. Paired with Evans drumheads and Starclassic lugs, this set delivers contemporary tone, exceptional playability, and a stunning finish.

Innovative shell design: Starclassic Walnut/Birch

All shells in the Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch Series are crafted from American walnut and European birch. The bass drum features 7 plies (5 birch + 2 inner walnut), while the toms feature 6 plies (4 birch + 2 inner walnut). This carefully researched combination provides a modern sound suitable for all musical styles. The walnut layers emphasize rich, powerful low-end, while birch adds clear, focused highs and a defined attack. Internal lacquer on the shells further enhances projection and tonal focus.

Starclassic shell hardware: Built for professionals

The die-cast zinc tension hoops are extremely robust, optimizing contact with the screws for tuning stability and reliability. Bass drum claws feature rubber pads to protect the hoops while improving resonance. Air-sprung floor tom legs and the Starcast Mounting System allow the shells to vibrate freely, ensuring full tonal projection. Starclassic lugs provide extreme stability, making the kit ideal for everyday touring.


From the factory, the toms and floor toms are fitted with Evans G2 clear heads, while the bass drum comes with an Evans EQ4 head with damping ring, delivering professional-ready sound straight out of the box.
