The Tama WBR52LBNS BWO Starclassic Walnut and Birch Blue and White Oyster is a limited edition shell set featuring hybrid shells made of walnut and birch. The innovative combination of these two tonewoods produces a modern, warm sound with a strong low end that remains clear and articulate. This versatile drum kit from Tama is equipped with the legendary Starclassic shell hardware, including the Star Cast Mounting System, die cast hoops, and spring loaded floor tom legs. Combined with Evans drumheads and Starclassic lugs, the result is a contemporary drum kit with a modern sound and an impressive finish.
All shells in the Tama Starclassic Walnut and Birch series are made from a hybrid of American walnut and European birch. The bass drum consists of a total of seven plies, five plies of birch and two inner plies of walnut, while the toms feature six plies, four plies of birch and two inner plies of walnut. After extensive research, Tama developed this combination to deliver a modern sound suitable for all musical styles. A defining characteristic of this sound is its pronounced low end, created by the two walnut plies. The birch adds focused clarity and a powerful attack to the complex tonal spectrum. In addition, the shells are lacquered on the inside, which further enhances projection and focus.
The die cast zinc hoops are extremely robust and enhance the overall tone. They also improve contact between the tension rods and the hoops, ensuring reliable and stable tuning. The bass drum claws of the Starclassic Walnut and Birch drums are fitted with rubber pads that protect the hoops and improve the resonance of the bass drum.
The floor tom legs are air cushioned, and the proven Star Cast Mounting System allows the shells to vibrate freely so the sound can fully develop. The Starclassic lugs are exceptionally durable and ideally suited for everyday touring. At the factory, the toms and floor toms are fitted with Evans G2 clear heads. The bass drum comes equipped with an Evans EQ4 head with a damping ring, ensuring it is ready to play right away.
