With the Marshall 1959BJA Billy Joe Armstrong Amp, Marshall presents a brand-new signature amplifier dedicated to one of the most iconic guitar sounds in rock history. Developed in collaboration with Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, the head is based on the legendary hand-wired 1959HW Super Lead, whose circuitry has been enhanced with the famous ‘Dookie Mod’. Inspired by the sound of the Green Day classic *Dookie*, this 100-watt valve amp delivers more gain, tighter bass and the tried-and-tested Plexi character which has defined Billie Joe Armstrong’s rhythm guitar sound for more than three decades now. At the same time, the Master Volume and Gain controls offer significantly more flexibility than the classic Plexi. The head features two internally bridgeable channels, high-and low-sensitivity inputs, and classic tone controls with Treble, Middle, Bass and Presence. The real highlight of this Signature Plexi, however, is its unique design: With baby blue Tolex, a gold-coloured front panel featuring Billie Joe Armstrong’s signature and the iconic ‘Dookie’ lettering, Marshall pays tribute to both his legendary ‘Blue’ guitar and the album that helped Green Day achieve their international breakthrough in 1994.

The technical foundation of the 1959BJA is the hand-wired Marshall 1959HW, whose circuitry was further developed in collaboration with Billie Joe Armstrong and inspired by the legendary modification of his famous ‘Dookie’ amp. The result is a classic Plexi sound with a higher gain reserve, tighter low-midrange and a punchy response, making it suitable for both rich punk rhythm guitars and classic rock. Marshall combines traditional valve technology with practical features such as a master volume control and a simplified user interface, without losing sight of the characteristic Marshall sound.

Visually, the 1959BJA pays tribute to Billie Joe Armstrong’s legendary guitar , ‘Blue ’. The distinctive baby-blue finish is complemented by a gold front panel, silver design elements and Billie Joe Armstrong’s signature on both the front and back. Manufactured in the UK and available exclusively as a head, the amplifier can be flexibly combined with a wide variety of speaker cabinets thanks to its switchable impedance settings of 4, 8 and 16 ohms.

Unlike conventional PCB amps, Marshall’s hand-wired design utilises classic point-to-point or turret board wiring, which not only preserves the authentic vintage character but also facilitates maintenance and modification work. The unmistakable Marshall sound is delivered by a power stage featuring four EL34 valves, whose punchy mids, tight bass and characteristic harmonic spectrum define the classic British rock sound. Combined with the revised Dookie Mod circuit, the 1959BJA delivers the rich Plexi crunch and high gain headroom for which Billie Joe Armstrong’s guitar sound has been renowned since the early Green Day years.

As a special extra, Marshall supplies the 1959BJA with a Certificate of Authenticity. This certificate confirms the authenticity of the signature amp and, in addition to the model name and production date, also features Billie Joe Armstrong’s printed signature. The certificate is complemented by the signatures of the Marshall staff involved in manufacturing, electronics, engineering and quality control. For collectors and Green Day fans in particular, this detail underlines the exclusive nature of the signature amp, which is manufactured in the UK.
