With the EP-136 K.O. Sidekick, Teenage Engineering presents the perfect complement to the EP samplers. The mixer offers two identical stereo channels and a clearly laid-out master section. Each channel is equipped with a gain control, a 3-band EQ (with interchangeable EQ modes!), CUE and FX switches, and a volume control. The channel layout is thus modelled on modern DJ mixers.
The master section features a high-resolution display, an effects section and a preview function. Thanks to the dual-channel beat-match function, you can match the tempo of two audio sources to synchronise them. This is particularly useful when the BPM is unknown on one or both channels. The effects section has a lot to offer: 6 Knock-Out performance effects, covering delay and reverb amongst others, are controlled live in time with the beat using the pressure-sensitive FX pad and the Tap FX sequencer.
All audio inputs and outputs are stereo and fitted with 3.5mm jack sockets. The aux input feeds directly into the sum output; this is intended as an additional input without any adjustment options, or can be used in a daisy chain with other EP-136 mixers in larger setups. When connected to a computer and a DAW, the USB power supply functions as a USB audio interface with 8 inputs and 4 outputs, as well as a MIDI controller.
The design remains flexible, however, so this mixer can be used with any other audio source, such as a groovebox, synthesiser, drum machine or sampler.
