With the Teuffel Birdfish Apricot #150, we offer the unique opportunity to purchase an absolute masterpiece of German guitar making. The Birdfish, produced in a very small series, is one of the most famous designs from the hands of guitar making legend Ulrich Teuffel and occupies a central position in every guitar collection. It is therefore not surprising that even seasoned musicians and guitar collectors such as Kirk Hammett, Billy Gibbons and Hans Zimmer are among the proud owners of this unique instrument. The premium instrument on offer with serial number #150 comes from a private estate and is fully preserved. It comes with a robust tour case, an interchangeable tonebar set and pickup as well as a matching tool set.
Their basic construction also gives this unique instrument its name: the two key elements that form the basis of the instrument are called 'Bird' and 'Fish' due to their unique shape. They are the central connecting links between the neck, tonebars, pickups and bridge and are each made from a solid block of aluminum. After the initial shaping process, they are coated with nickel and copper. The subsequent thorough polishing as an intermediate step is followed by two further layers of nickel and chrome before the final high-gloss finish is applied with a final polish. This production method gives both elements their unique look and a lasting quality that is second to none.
To give the Birdfish its individual sound character, the two aluminum elements are connected using two tonebars. These provide the resonance transmission between the bridge and neck and thus make an essential contribution to the basic sound of the instrument. Two sets of tonebars are included in the Set to adjust the timbre of the Teuffel Birdfish to your own preferences. If you are looking for a balanced sound that is convincing in a variety of ways, you will find a solid tonal basis with the two American Alder tonebars . Alternatively, the tonebar set made of Michigan Maple can be used to add more dynamics and
In addition to the possibility of changing the basic character of the instrument using the tonebars, the modular pickup system of the Teuffel Birdfish also offers numerous sound facets that can elicit almost any sound imaginable from the instrument. The Set contains two single coils and three different humbuckers. While the two single-coil pickups shine with traditional vintage voicing, the three humbucker pickups provide three different sound characters. The first humbucker delivers the classic qualities of a P-90 with a pronounced mid-range spectrum, while another humbucker with coveted PAF voicing is also available. The third humbucker also follows the traditional PAF sound, but offers a slightly hotter output, making it ideal for distorting sounds in the bridge position. With the help of the innovative rail system, all three pickups can be infinitely adjusted in position, so there are no limits to the tonal options of the Birdfish.
It goes without saying that only premium components from renowned manufacturers are used on the Teuffel Birdfish. For example, a high-quality Tune-o-Matic bridge from the Japanese parts manufacturer Gotoh is used. The German parts giant Schaller is also represented with numerous parts such as a reliable Schaller Megaswitch and famous Schaller Security Locks, while the connection sockets are made in the USA by Switchcraft. All other parts of the Birdfish come from Ulrich Teuffel's own design. Here, the developer spares neither expense nor effort to manufacture all add-on parts such as the clamp saddle or the fine tuner tailpiece to an absolute premium level. In addition, the add-on parts are subjected to an electroplating process, making all metal surfaces particularly corrosion-resistant.
