The Yamaha SB7J is a mute that allows you to practise the trumpet and cornet quietly whilst still enjoying the full sound of the instrument through connected headphones. The revolutionary X Silent Brass System provides the musician with an authentic sound experience through Brass Resonance Modelling and an integrated headphone socket. The sound is picked up by the microphone in the mute and then processed to sound as it would without a mute. This newly developed digital audio technology makes the system a genuine listening experience.
Unlike its predecessor, the mute is significantly lighter and more compact. The playing resistance is more comfortable and provides an even more natural playing feel. The built-in two-stage reverb function also allows you to add a touch of reverb to the sound through the headphones.
The mute can be stored inside the bell for transport.
Important: Batteries are not included (2 x AA required)
Yamaha SB-7X Silent Brass II for Trumpet and CornetI've been studying trumpet with the Yamaha STX-2 Silent Brass for the second day running, and it's great for practicing all aspect of technique and tone without it being so loud.
But I've found that certain notes are more out off tune than others, I'll have to find a solution to this by maybe taking out/sliding in the main tuning slide, or using the valve slides on notes when I'm not used to using those slides.
But this is only my second day of using the mute and overall I'm very happy with it. The Brass Resonance Modelling and Reverb are sounding very good.
And just like everybody else who has bought the Yamaha STX-2, I'm not using the included earphones but headphones that I already owned.
I am a complete novice. Normally a drummer and bass player. I wanted to try a new instrument, (trumpet) so bought the 'Silent Brass' to be able to play and learn without annoying my lovely neighbours. It is excellent. The mute fits and works well. It's lightweight. The remodelling unit produces a good reproduction of the sound I am playing and the neighbours are happy. You need a bit more puff as you'd expect using a mute but it's not much of a problem. The earphones included are poor, hence why I didn't give it 5 stars. But I rate this product highly and am extremely pleased with it.
I am just learning to play the cornet - A second hand Yamaha YCR-2330ii. Normally I can only practise if the house is empty and the neighbours are out. Now I can practise any time. My progress in a few days has been very good. My only criticism of this device is that the STX-2 battery compartment is a bit flimsy, but that is more than compensated for by the sound that comes through the earphones. I am looking forward now to every lesson with this transformational piece of equipment.
