Precise artistic work deserves precise craftsmanship. The CK 1 capsule from AKG’s CMS series, now a classic, has been a bestseller since its launch in 1969. AKG’s CMS series, comprising a range of interchangeable capsules and preamplifiers, as well as specially developed accessories that were innovative for their time, quickly became legendary. It was discontinued in 1993.
In response to growing demand from sound engineers, AKG decided to re-release the C 451 B with the same acoustic characteristics as the popular original C 451 EB + CK 1 microphone – featuring significantly improved technical specifications and excellent value for money.
The capsule in the new version is permanently attached to the preamplifier to eliminate the mechanical issues associated with the screw connection. Thanks to the use of an extremely lightweight diaphragm, the new C 451 B is virtually immune to handling noise. An all-metal housing offers excellent protection against RF interference, and the microphone is robust enough to deliver outstanding results even under very harsh conditions.
The C 451 B is an excellent tool for the precise capture of signals rich in transients, such as drums, overhead mics or other instruments with a percussive sound. The airy sound, the high overload threshold of the capsule and the electronics, as well as the improved technical details, form a solid foundation for the creation of yet another legend.
The matched pairs consist of two microphones whose sensitivity differs by no more than 1 dB and which also match in the frequency range from 200 Hz to 15,000 Hz of the individual frequency response in cardioid mode and are selected from a large number of individual microphones using the criteria described above and a proprietary computer programme.
Using this matched pair for stereo recordings, employing various techniques, ensures a good and stable balance without any frequency-dependent shift in the stereo image.
The set contains all the standard accessories included with the individually packaged microphones, as well as a stereo boom and performance specification sheets, all housed in an attractive carrying case (Soundtool case, medium size).
