Avalon U5 has been known as best bass DI/instrument preamp for years, so I bought one to use manly live with my bass, and occasionally for studio recording. It sounds great as excepted, but I think it is necessary to say it has some issues. Grounding is not 100% ideal solved, so this device will hum in given conditions and ground switch will not help. It is a high end device, thus it is pretty sensitive to ground loops.
Truly a superb D.I. for recording and live use. I use it manly to record bass guitar (as a preamp/D.I.). It gives me clean and pure sound of my instruments. The sound is clean but not sterile, you can also use the pre-defined pre-sets, however for my ears it works best with the pre-sets bypassed.
