The ‘Unterwegs mit der Querflöte’ series is suitable for individual and pair lessons for children aged 5 and over. To this end, this edition focuses on the essentials – namely, learning the instrument and making music in a holistic way – without providing detailed supplementary information that is not relevant to playing the instrument itself.

To ensure successful learning, the explanations are simple and tailored to children. There are also four symbols indicating the activities in the book:

• Drawing and writing
• Learning something new
• Memorising
• Finger and rhythm exercises

These methods promote a holistic approach to music-making, teach and develop skills, and ensure lessons are varied and motivating. Volume 1 – Out in the Countryside covers the interval range f¹ – c² and consolidates this in a way that is both methodical and playful.

The author

Katharina Flaig completed a Bachelor’s degree in flute in Augsburg and Lyon. She subsequently obtained a Master’s degree in music education in Karlsruhe. Since 2017, she has been working as a concert educator with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra and also teaches the flute at the Bochum Music School.
