The digital saxophone YDS-120 from Yamaha offers a very comfortable symbiosis of two worlds.
The fingering corresponds to that of a real saxophone (high F#, front F, low A). Due to the simplified design, the YDS-120 is haptically between an alto and a tenor saxophone. The blowing technique is converted into digital sound generation using a recorder mouthpiece. In combination with the digital advantages offered by a modern wind transducer with the latest MIDI electronics and AWM sampling technology , this instrument is ideal for all those who do not want to do without their saxophone playing while keeping an eye on the volume level and creative potential. Just like a real saxophone, the sound is modulated by the blowing strength as usual, giving you innovative access to the 73 different sounds that are pre-installed here. 56 of these are saxophone sounds which, thanks to the latest sampling technology, provide authentic saxophone sounds from soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones.
The volume of the YDS-120 can be adjusted in 15 steps, which has the advantage that you can play normally without having to laboriously regulate the level by blowing on it. The free YDS controller app expands the sound generation options, including instrument settings and sound editing. You can use the app to intuitively and visually make detailed settings that are not possible on the instrument itself. To use the app, download it and connect your smartphone to the YDS-120.
Whether for quiet practice at home in the evening or for exploring completely new possibilities, the digital saxophone gives the instrumentalist access to tens of thousands of sounds from all MIDI-compatible synthesizers and keyboards. The instrument is simply connected to the computer and music software via USB and can play the sounds it contains. An audio output makes it possible to transmit the audio signal beyond the built-in speaker to a larger amplifier system or a mixing console. The YDS-120 combines digital and acoustic technologies to create a completely new, unique instrument!
