The Gibson 1959 ES-330 Reissue Vintage Natural #A960099 at a glance
The Gibson 1959 ES-330 Reissue Vintage Natural marks the return of a true classic to the Custom Historic Collection. The famous Thinline hollow-body version of the ES-335 offers all the traditional features that make the model so popular: articulate hollow-body tones, iconic looks and, of course, the authentic feel of the much-sought-after Gibson instruments from the late 1950s. Naturally, the Gibson 1959 ES-330 Reissue Vintage Natural, as a genuine offshoot of the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee, comes in a historically accurate Lifton-style case and with a signed certificate of authenticity.
Hollow-body body made from maple and poplar
Just like its predecessor, the ES-335, the ES-330 follows the same slim ‘Thinline’ body contours, but omits the centre block positioned beneath the bridge in order to maximise the resonance of its body volume. The top, back and sides are crafted from multi-ply maple and poplar laminate – classic materials that play a key role in defining the ES-330’s fundamental tonal character. The nitrocellulose finish in Vintage Natural with VOS treatment, meanwhile, ensures the right look, recreating the authentic surface texture of well-maintained originals from the late 1950s.
Gibson P-90 Dogear Pickups
The two Gibson P-90 Dogear pickups form a particularly important part of the ES-330’s sound. Housed in plastic enclosures featuring the eponymous ‘Dogear’ mounting tabs, these two single-coil pickups are incredibly versatile, capable of everything from articulate clean tones to rock-style gain sounds. The underlying wiring of the 1959 ES-330 Reissue is entirely hand-wired and utilises high-quality components such as US-made CTS potentiometers and genuine paper-in-oil capacitors.
