With the SE John Mayer Silver Sky, the iconic signature model of the American singer-songwriter and seven-time Grammy winner is now also available as part of the SE range. The SE John Mayer Silver Sky offers all the features that made its Core Series counterpart such a surprise hit, whilst introducing brand-new colour finishes and a few useful tweaks that optimise the Silver Sky’s basic design for modern applications.
Naturally, the body shaping of the poplar body follows the ergonomic design of the original and offers a comfortable playing experience whether standing or sitting, thanks to the practical forearm contour and slim tummy cut on the back. The classic cutaway scoop at the lower body horn is also featured, giving the fretting hand extra freedom when playing in the higher registers.
As the most important distinguishing feature of a genuine PRS guitar, classic Bird inlays are, of course, a must! These are set as ‘Small Bird’ inlays into the 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, which, with an extended fingerboard radius of 8.5", now also supports precise bends and improved handling of the high E string. On the back, the PRS SE Silver Sky features a classic bolt-on maple neck, whose 635JM profile boasts the unique shaping of the Core model.
Three 635JM “S” single-coil pickups in the neck, middle and bridge positions of the PRS SE Silver Sky ensure the right sounds across all registers. Originally designed for the US-made Silver Sky, the “S” version of these pickups has been adapted to the configuration of the SE Silver Sky to draw out astonishing musical qualities from the instrument’s poplar body. All three pickups are wired according to the classic layout, featuring a 5-way blade switch, a master volume control and two additional tone controls for the neck and middle positions.
