The Tascam DR-40XP is a compact field recorder that can do much more than classic recordings. Four tracks simultaneously, flexible microphone arrangement and functions that are otherwise more familiar from larger recording setups. This is exactly what makes it interesting for music, film sound, content and sound design on the move.
The integrated condenser microphones can be mechanically switched between XY and AB. This is more than just a nice extra.

The DR-40XP can record up to four tracks simultaneously. The internal microphones run as a stereo pair, external sources are added via two XLR/jack combo sockets.
Various recording modes are also available: Mono, stereo, 4-track and overdub. Overdubbing is particularly exciting because you can choose between two working methods. You can either mix the new signal in directly or record it separately without changing the existing recording.
With 32-bit float recording, you can concentrate more relaxed on the moment. The wide dynamic range reliably captures both quiet and very loud signals. Classic tools such as limiters, automatic level adjustment and peak reduction are also available. Depending on the situation, you can decide whether to work manually or let the recorder assist you.
Microphones or line signals can be connected directly via the two XLR/jack inputs, including switchable phantom power. MS stereophony is also supported. With a suitable microphone setup, you can decode the signal directly in the device and adjust the stereo width. The recorder can also be used as a USB audio interface or integrated into your setup as a card reader.
The DR-40XP comes with a range of features that will quickly become indispensable in everyday recording:
There are also practical options such as automatic file splitting, loop playback or variable speed without pitch change.
Many tasks can be completed without a computer. Files can be shared, organized and managed via playlists. An integrated effects processor completes the setup and simple sound processing such as reverb. Even a tuning function is integrated if you want to quickly check an instrument.
The recorder stores data on microSD cards (up to 512 GB) and can be operated via batteries, mains adapter or USB. This means you are completely independent of the location.
A built-in speaker and a headphone output enable direct monitoring. The tripod thread also allows the recorder to be positioned neatly.
