The Black Joystick 2 is Erica Synths is a high-quality, mechanically engineered Joystick Controller for the (manual) generation of control voltages. The module can generate CVs on four tracks, each with two axes (X/Y), whilst it is possible, for example, for one channel to maintain its last set voltage, for two channels to record the joystick’s movement and play it back in a loop, and for the fourth channel to be actively ‘cranked’. The Black Joystick 2 can be configured as a dual, quadraphonic ‘ CV-Panner ’ (SNEW). This is particularly useful for surround sound applications with a corresponding number of VCAs and loudspeakers, but also when four targets are to be modulated proportionally using the joystick; this can be achieved in two ways, and here too the Motion-Recorder be utilised again. Instead of the joystick, an LFO with a sine or random waveform can be activated on the desired channel, which then replaces manual movements. Alternatively, the eight outputs can be switched to the drone oscillator; in this mode, the controller becomes a ‘manipulable’ eight-channel FM source with a sine waveform!
